BEHIND THE WALL
some folks build walls up
To protect them from the pain,
And swear they will never venture out
From the safety--into rain.
Those of us who are trusted
(to get close enough--)
To peek behind the wall
Want to tear it down and chase away
The hurts behind that wall.
But usually all we are allowed to do
Is reach out a heart and hand
And let them know we care enough
To try and understand.
Too many promises were like shadows.
They didn't mean much at all.
To those who live their lives
With bad memories, back behind the wall.
I will give you one more promise
This one won't turn into lies.
Sometimes God lets us have bad times
That are blessings--in disguise.
I will laugh with you--cry with you
Pray for you--try to catch you if you fall.
My God says only love is strong enough
To slip behind the wall.
