There's something 'bout a shipwreck
that takes hold upon my heart
Sunken deep in ocean bottoms--
Or broken on the shoals apart.
For they all begin so regal,
Heading out to seas, unknown
And the men that serve as sailors
Sometimes never make it home.
And some they carried treasure
Coins of silver, jewels and gold--
Then some vessels made for fishing
Often sailing forth so bold
But the sea's a mighty terror
With tempests showing rage
For no reason known, she sinks them
Breaks them rough as on a stage.
Often stories go down with them
The 'why' is never seen
And the men who manned those beauties
Are remembered strong and lean.
A reprieve is sometimes given
Such as with the Jamie T--
When she foundered on Cape Blanco reef
Wounded, sat there on the sea.
For her power sources failed
Four brave hearts began to fall
They put on their survival suits
And made that Coastguard call.
And they felt the salt spray hit them
As they hit rocks nearby
Soon they heard the Coastguard coming
Beating hard across the sky.
The winds beat at them lusty
But one strong man braved the foam--
Calmed the men and swam them shoreward
And brought them safely home.
There's something 'bout a shipwreck
Where man has never trod
That reminds us, Oh so often
That our lives depend on God.
