I went down to the creek today
To sit underneath this old tree
It stands beside a babbling brook
Which runs as far as the eye can see
-
This tree is very old in stature
It's branches are still so full of life
It gives you a protective feeling
That lets you forget your worldly strife
-
For this tree must have some wisdom
It's been standing for all these years
Surviving through out the seasons
While watching people shed their tears
-
It gives you this welcoming gesture
As the wind blows through its leaves
It seems to be saying to us
"Come sit down under me, please"
-
So tell me all your troubles
Go ahead and get it off your chest
My leaves and branches can handle it
And my trunk will hold the rest
-
So I sat beneath this mighty tree
With my back against it's trunk
It seem to be comforting me
Then I fell into a sleepy funk
-
I dreamt that I had been crying
Pouring my heart out to the sky
Emptying out all my sorrows
While this mighty tree stood by
-
For it has comforted many people
Just by standing here so tall
Never placing any judgments
When people come to call
-
For this tree has a mighty spirit
It's where Jesus sat and prayed
He left behind a part of himself
That's why it's here for you today
-
Then I awoke with a peaceful feeling
My heart and soul felt new
Now I can continue on living
And believe in myself to stay true
-
That's why I come here quite often
When I need some peace of mind
To unload all my life's burdens
And for the strength that I might find
