JOY

When I watch the fire flickering, I feel the heart warmth I did as I watched you open your eyes the first time. I bask in it's soft yellow glow and know the world is turning and time is passing.
I look back with joy....when you took your first steps, then later, when you stooped to grasp a rattler and God blew a sudden breeze that startled you and made you hesitate long enough for me to grab you away and your father to remove it.
I remember the askance on your face when I tried out a new movie camera and had you play in a mud puddle, running back and forth and wondering if Momma had lost her mind, letting you get dirty. And quickly you picked a little desert sunflower and brought it to me. The movie is long gone, but the memory is as shiny and bright as it was when it was first made.
I remember having to let go when you grew and learned to drive...both your dad and I lay awake til you were safe and home. Prayers kept you alive, and there's no doubt of it.
We watched with pride your basketball games, your music endeavors, and finally when you married and became a dad yourself. And we prayed.
You grew and as you did, your family grew and changed. Joy was listening and watching your shows with your loved ones...and when time ran short for your dad, I sadly watched you grieve.
Life goes on, my Son. Know God is there always with you...turn to him when your joy seems lacking. He give back JOY always.
Love, Mom
