When I was young, and very dumb
I fought me, in a war
I just wanted to be a man
To impress my dad, and more
I yearned to prove I was no coward
So off I went to fight
I didn’t know what the war was for
But they told me it was right.
So I went off to fight this war
And stayed there for a year
Surrounded by those rubber trees
My mind all filled with fear
And I saw all those atrocities
And the grimy fact of hate
And now I look me back in time
And I would like to state
That never in a million years
Would I fight a war again
I’ve seen too many people hurt
And seem men grim with pain
Oh, I would never fight again
Now I’m a man of peace
And if mankind is going to live
Then all these wars must cease.
