Once strong and proud
Once powerful and free
Thus was the nation
Of the mighty Cherokee
Our numbers were many
Mother Earth our home
Since the birth of our nation
We were free to roam
Food was plentiful
The waters were pure
No winter too harsh
That we couldn't endure
We lived in peace
Our old ones lived long
We feared no enemy
For our warriors were strong
Just as the rivers flow
Our people lived as far as the eye could see
Thus was the nation
Of the mighty Cherokee
Then came a great enemy
From a far away shore
And the great drums beat
One final call to war
Our warriors fought bravely
But they battled in vain
For this enemy came beyond numbers
Like endless drops of rain
The battles raged on
And rivers flowed with blood
And still they swarmed across the land
As if a mighty flood
With each passing sun
More and more would arrive
In the end we signed a treaty
So our people would survive
They took us from our land
We had known for countless years
And many more did perish
As we walked the Trail Of Tears
Soon more would wither and die
From disease and from starvation
When they locked us on this land
That is called a Reservation
Our ways of life
They would forever change
Even our children now speak
In a language that is strange
But the memory of what was
Our ways and our pride
They will always be strong
Our beliefs have not died
Our numbers again grow
But we no longer hate
Our old enemy has become brother
So we quietly wait
For the day will come
When his reign is at an end
But we will not abandon our brother
Who has not the knowledge to fend
Our spirit remains strong
And it always will be
For the noblest of hearts
Are of the Cherokee
Just as we have always done
We shall honor Mother Earth
And the world will behold
A Nation Of Rebirth
We will teach our brothers
And they will learn
How to live in peace
When we return
The world will watch
For it will be plain to see
The Rebirth Of The Nation
Of The Mighty CHEROKEE !
