In this world of instant messages
Where every thing moves so fast
Stands a rusty old mailbox
Like a monument to our past
-
Oh it's still being used
It collects bills and fliers
Usually from people wanting money
Or hoping to attract new buyers
-
These people don't know me
Not the person I really am
I suppose their advertisements
Are just really a stone age spam
-
But I do remember a time
It was in the days of old
When that rusty old mailbox
Seemed more priceless than gold
-
For it contained letters from loved ones
Sometimes packages from afar
Some were scented with perfume
Or were bright and shiny like a star
-
It was sort of like magic
It could make your heart race
Could it be bad news
Or something blessed with grace
-
And if you were a kid
You took great pride
When you finally grew tall enough
To open its door and look inside
-
But like so many things
Time seems to have passed it by
Our letters now go unanswered
And we ask ourselves why
-
It's because in this day of computers
Communications travel with a gush
People have grown impatient
They're always in such a rush
-
With instant messages and cell phones
Communicating with e-mails and text
The world is in such a hurry
You wonder what will come next
-
But sometimes things are so old
They suddenly seem brand new
So lets all write a letter
And surprise someone out of the blue
-
Lets polish up that old mailbox
And start a brand new fad
Write a letter to a friend
And recapture the magic we had !!
