I wrote a poem for my Dad for Father’s Day. For my dad, Roy.
Father’s Day 2018
What thoughts come to mind
When I think of my dad?
Maybe all of the fun
And adventures we’ve had.
Seems like a lifetime ago
But if I close my eyes and try
I can picture those moments
As if no time has gone by.
So many words
Make me think of my dad
Like cowboy and sage brush
And mustache and plaid.
Stories of little people
Living in the woods
Cowboy boots and English leather
And everything that’s good.
Africa and botany
Pocket knife and comb
Writing in his journal
Giving us a home.
Beaver, Oregon, brothers
Indian dancing war cry
Farsi French and Urdu
Doctorate certified
Missionary, bishopric
Branch president and more
Senior missionary too
A servant of the Lord.
Smart and kind and capable
A big infectious laugh
My daddy was my hero
My champion and a half.
There wasn’t any question
That I could find to ask
That he didn’t know the answer to
And he never explained too fast.
Teacher, provider, warrior
Comforter and friend
He was and is my daddy
Our bond will never end.
Love, your daughter, Leah
