Do You Remember?"
Do you remember when we were just little,
still in our childhood years?
Do you remember our laughter, he asked
And the sorrow of our tears?
Can you remember the times that we shared?
The old man asked his friend--
We promised each other we'd stay that close
Even until the end.
Do you remember the times that we played
Down in the old back field?
Those were the times; back in our youth
That our friendship forever was sealed.
Do you remember the day in the barn
When we made that promise to each other?
We vowed that each new thing we learned
We would share with one another.
You see, their knowledge was very important
For the two friends knew not what was true
They were eager to learn all about the world
Before their long journey was through.
Well I must confess--the old man said--
That I haven't kept my end of the deal.
I have failed to share the most valuable thing
It's so valuable it oft' seems unreal.
With that the old man took out a book
From under the folds of his jacket.
And he laid the Book of Mormon down
Next to his friend who lay in the casket.
