Prince Birch, donned in his trademark jet-black armor that won him renown on the battlefield as The Black Prince confidently strode to his brother's side. Birch bore no shield on his back. All he carried was two swords strapped to his back, two small axes strapped to his sides and two small daggers strapped to his boots.
The prince looked towards the crown prince and smiled, "Brother, mayhaps today is a good day for our enemies to die!"
"How about a ballad of Victory, Birch," Ash adjusted the buckler on his left arm and readied the short spear he favored on horseback. His metallic silver and white armor glistened signaling to his men, he was there with them bracing for the first wave that wouldn't come as intended when a series of explosions erupted from beneath the ground.
"When this war is over, brother," Prince Birch drew forth his swords, "I shall compose one ballad for each us regaling how we, the sons of King Sunrider the Tenth, fought and slew our enemies this day!"
**KA-BOOM! KA-BOOM! KA-BOOM! KA-BOOM!***
Sounds of shrieking and squealing orcs being blasted by land mines, trip wires connected to molotov cocktails set up by the tinker gnomes too last night, and sink holes created by the Juggernaut added just prior to the horde coming into the valley.
High up on the walls, the catapults started launching volleys of boulders laced with acid not fire melting any weapons, armor, and flesh of the invaders that came within two hundred yards of the army laying in wait at the base.
The giants that flanked either side of the horde countered by throwing huge boulders, they fell short of the dwarven phalanx by one hundred feet and closing.
"I believe with all my heart that we shall emerge victorious this day, brother!" Prince Birch steeled himself for the conflict to come and gave Crown Prince Ash a warm smile, "But if we should fail, take comfort in these words:
"How can an elf die better,
Than facing fearful odds?
For the ashes of his fathers,
And the temples of his Gods?"
The military backing the crown prince and his generals cheered and began to chant their own battle cry. The first wave hit hard but Prince Ash and his men were seasoned, battle hardened warriors and gave no quarter cutting down orcs right and left.
When the first wave of Orcs hit, Prince Birch seemed as though he had flipped a switch. Gone was the clueless fop who spouted poetry at the drop of a hat. Now stood a serious and determined warrior who with two swords in his hand began to show both friend and foe alike why he was called 'The Black Prince' in battle. Prince Birch proceeded to slice and dice his way into the line of Orcs that faced him as though he was a farmer harvesting wheat with a scythe!
Elsewhere on the battle field, the heavy horses of Dinnendale charged into the sides of the horde cutting off half of Gruumasht's forces from the rest. They even took down two giants on either side creating an opening for Captains, Andaerean with Irzen to charge in on the right flank while Mandur and his company rammed their way through on the left.
The JUGGERNAUT reached down into the earth and pulled out a handful of small boulders about the size of beach ball and launched them at the ogres coming up to counter Mandur and Andaerean's cavalry. One ogre dropped from having its head taking off, and another had its legs cut off at the knees. A third ogre managed to dodge out of the way as two more boulders whizzed by its head and torso. The boulders however were more than just rocks as they unfolded and stood on two feet, arms, and a head. "WE ARE GALEB DUR! WE CRUSH YOU NOW!"
Irzen was in his prime as he flanked Andaerean and proceeded to slash and stab any Orcs that came within reach as he rode by, through and over them. Billy rammed his way through the opposition as the Swordsman charged forward keeping pace with the movement and speed of his allies.
The Galeb Dur just rolled around like over-sized marbles tripping up or crushing any orcs that came too close to the horses. After about five minutes of seeing their comrades get bowled over by earth elementals, a handful of elites hidden within the ranks of orc warriors and two ogres, they charged into the fray. One elite slammed his spiked club down onto one of the galeb dur, smashing it to bits and another used his club like a baseball bat.
At the top of his lungs, Captain Mandur shouted his battle cry, "Yoth da Khrum Ka'az Nar da warrior! oz honor Nar victory!"
**translation:** For the All Father and the Warrior! To Honor and Victory!
His company of wargoats and riders came thundering through smashing their way down the left flank of the enemy focusing on the larger foes, giants, and ogres, and the occasional troll to which they lit up like a bonfire to keep it from regenerating.
Irzen, for his part, was lopping off Orc limbs left and right as his blade Evenflow lived up to its name. With Billy beneath him, the Swordsman mowed through the opposition as he kept to Captain Andaerean's side to keep him from getting flanked.

Up on the wall, the catapults kept up their long ranged assault on the larger bulk of the horde. The exploding rounds forced the horde to separate making it easier for the cavalry to pick them off, the down side was that artillery that Gruumasht brought with him, was now in range to hit the city walls, and hit they did.
One of the archers yelled, "INCOMING! BRACE FOR IMPACT!!"
The elementalist had just reached the wall as the first block hit cracking the wall. Looking skyward, she dropped a smaller version of an elder air elemental onto the enemy catapults. One was completely demolished, another broken, and another coming up to fire again.
Another series of catapult boulders slammed up against the wall in the same spot with a resounding thud. The wall began to weaken under the elementalist's feet gradually. when one of the tinker gnomes spotted the stone wall crumbling.
"Yikes! Fellas over here! Grab the tar and pour it into the cracks of the broken wall!" The lead tinker gnomes shouted orders in gnomish and the troop went to work patching up the hole as best they could while dodging enemy fire.
Prince Willow emerged upon the battlements as his units of archers took their positions both on the parapets, the battlements, the rooftops, window sills, courtyards and alleys of the Palace itself.
The Ranger quickly studied the situation, drew forth his bow and nocked an arrow.
"VAEDIA!!!" The Prince called out in a voice loud enough for all to hear.
Translation: "READY!!!"
Every last one of his subjects with a bow in their hand nocked their arrow in unison.
"EIS!!!" Willow took aim at the middle of the Orc army.
Translation: "AIM!!!"
His archers did the same.
"AITH LLE SASAER!!!" The Prince cautioned, "AITH LLE SASAER!!!"
Translation: "MARK YOUR TARGETS!!! MARK YOUR TARGETS!!!"
The archers followed suit.
"THOSI!!!" Willow cried out as he loosed his arrow in unison with his kinfolk.
Translation: "FIRE!!!"
The first thing the Orcs could hear was the collective "twang" of two thousand arrows being loosed simultaneously.
The second thing the Orcs could hear was a "wooshing" sound as the arrows flew skyward.
The first thing the enemy saw was a blanket of arrows that was so thick that it literally blot the suns out of the sky.
And the last thing the enemy saw was this deadly hailstorm of arrows mowing down the heart of their number as the concentrated center of their force bore the full brunt of this withering attack.
More screams and squeals of orcs, trolls and ogres echoed down below on the battle field felled by the hailstorm of arrows that blackened the sky long enough for Ash, Birch and the rest to press the attack.
Prince Birch cut loose with a ululating battle cry as he surged forward spinning and slashing his way through the Orcs that stood before him. The Elven Prince half-danced, half-sliced his challengers in a ballet of death.
Gruumasth had enough of the elven cavalry and infantry cutting down his horde and signaled for the giants, armored trolls and ogre mages to attack. The giants that weren't cut down by Mandur and Andaerean's cavalry unleashed a barrage of massive boulders right into the crown prince's men. Screams from the elves echoed now as they were crushed and smashed beneath their armor. The armored trolls came in swinging heavy war spiked clubs cleaving whole groups of the cavalry left and right. And lastly the ogre mages blasted the rest with waves of ice storms and dropped stinking cloud and cloudkill on the elven infantry.
Between the gagging, puking, and screams of elves and their allies, the warlord began to advance.
*****
The Elementalist did her best with Gusts of Wind to negate the ogre mages attacks, while the Juggernaut melded with the earth and popped up directly in the middle of the horde. Orcs, wargs, and siege equipment went flying in a three hundred sixty degree radius. The elder earth elemental slammed both fists down on the ground causing the earth to quake violently, cracking the ground beneath Gruumasht's mount and his second in command.
Lazheros was spamming heals as well as summoning his own celestial champions to aid and protect the elves of Northaven.
