A local farmer has asked if I can locate a S/H Perkins Engine to fit an old (mid 70's i think)JCB 180 4x4 type. Poss 2.5 4 cyl diesel. Not sure but I think there was only one engine fitted to these diggers for most of the 70's

Hi Tim If she has 4WD and a Perkins engine she will be post 1980 afair. (JCB 3CX model)Perkins 4236 engine.
Earlier than this were only 2WD (model 3C) and had a BMC engine with wet liners which had a habit of dropping, the Perkins was a huge improvement.
Some MF tractors will have the same or very similar engine.
Would he not consider a rebuild? Not so expensive I would think although a while since I did one.
Link might be useful

Thanks for the info Jim Rebuild not a good option. Old engine has been stripped and is in a hundred pieces all around the barn. Don,t have much patience with jig saws
