88 k's in 220 ab's!!!... WOOF!
Now, that gold glove question...
Carlos Santana!!!
What a great signing he has proven to be! Perhaps, not the best offense from 1st base in the AL. Still, Quite a few clutch rbi's when nobody else could hit w risp. 4 errors on the entire season. I only remember 1. His replacements at 1b, Miranda & Julien have botched more than 4 and don't routinely make the routine plays
I been saying for years! Preventing runs & hits on D is as big, if not bigger than scoring them on O. Digging out bad throws at 1b is as important a spot as there is on defense. Carlos makes it look easy.
The various metrics show no other AL 1st basemen has saved more runs than Carlos! And, it's not close. He leads the category by double digits.
Theres much crowing in TC about Carlos Correa s D, and Byron Buxtons D. Sure enough. When they play they impress. Yet, if you add up games played by CC + BB.... Does the pair equal games played by Mr. Santana? I just checked.
127 games for Santana.
90 games for Buxton.
75 games for Correa.
I wish I could find how many of those games played for ea was in DH role.
Defense innings played shoes Correa w 208 innings, Buck with 220 & Santana with 348.
Only Willie Castro (384) has more innings on D than Santana.
I would argue, the 3 players that make a run at TC MVP 2024 are Castro, Santana & Bailey Ober. Without those 3 guys, the Twins are struggling to stay ahead of the White Sox.
Conversely, remove the 3 highest salaries. Correa, Pablo Lopez & Buck? I think, only Lopez on the rotation is missed enough to make much difference.
He's a free agent for 2025. And he's getting old. He turns 39 next April. The Twins are idiots if they let him walk. The heir apparent, Alex Kiriloff, in his prime. Will never be the player Santana is as an old fart.
