In 2020. The vote total was 157.5 million votes. A reported 66.8% voter turnout if registered voters.
In a country where most believe only about 60% of eligible voters actually register to vote
The breakdown of that vote was 51.7% Biden. 46.9% Trump. About 1.4% other. Biden received 306 electorial votes. Both congressional bodies became Democratic slim majorities.
Was that called a mandate? If it was, it was also not true. Slim wins are not mandates. It is called a party sweep. Not a mandate.
Thats all Trump accomplished. Its a party sweep.
Please dont call it a mandate.
Trump 2024 vicory?
The vote total wont be complete for a couple more weeks. That total currently sits at 154million. When all is complete. Its likely we'll see voter turnout dropped by 1-1.5% from 2020. Votes keep trickling in. Provisional ballots, corrected ballots, overseas ballots, challenged ballots. It takes many weeks to get an accurate final total. Especially from the large population states and those with many oversea residents.
The current vote total is at a 50% deadlock between Trump & "not Trump". Harris hovers around 47% & change while almost double the 2020 total voted for neither. Ipting to protest vote for a lesser party, green, independent, libertarian, socialist, communist or the always popular write in protest of "mickey mouse".
The republican gained slim majority control in both the house & the senate. Trump did have 6 more electirial votes, 312 than biden did in 2020.
Neither elections resulted in a "voter mandate". Instead. This years election suggests- we are more evenly divided down the middle than ever.
Republicans did gain the party sweep. If used wisely. It means they can accomplish much over the next 2 years. If what they accomplish is popular. They'll retain house control over all 4 years.
