Im sorry. Am I missing something on Purdy?
He's a nice story. 7th round pick etc.
To me, he just feels like another Jimmy G.
Somewhat noodled arm. Often injured. Not great in clutch moments. He seems more a product if the supporting cast. Did the Niners maje a mistake giving up on Darnold?
I think so. Would Darnold listen to a $40m-$50m per year range offer in SF?
There isnt that much if any upside on purdy over Darnold. & If you look at passes of 30 yards or more. I think Darnold is the far better qb.
Not that Im wanting whats best for the niners, nor fo I wish to see Darnold walk away & play elsewhere.
Yet, i hear Florio rumbling that maybe there wont be many landing pads for Darnold.
I disagree!
Niners, Raiders, Browns, Saints, Tennessee, Jets, Giants, Rams, Steelers,( Wilson & Fields are both on 1 years deals) all have either ineffective or aging/ injured qb's.
Darnold shouldnt be looked at as a mahomes/ allen type savior that can make caviar from a supporting cast of 3 day old tilapia. But Darnold is plenty good enough behind a decent line and a good supporting cast. Heck, if Jerry Jones hadnt over paid prescott. Id have included the cowboys in the darnold is an upgrade listing.
Darnold, keep in mind. Hadnt been an everyday starter for a few years. So far, to my eye. It appears to me he has a lot of room to become even better. Plenty of arm strength. Plenty of toughness. Willingness to stand in & take a hit. Decent eacapability. As he puts more starts into his experience resume. He has at least as much chance to be a future mvp performer as there is a chance that he's plateauing.
Granted. It was the falcons. Not a great defense. But the 4th quarter he put forth last sunday was spectacular. The niners are crazy to not pursue Sam instead of Purdy boy.
