And .. darnolds "pinkie" issue is likely more of an issue than we know.
That said. Caleb Williams regressed really fast. He's back to holding the ball too long. Not keeping his eyes down field. The kid has sooo much obvious talent. Yet. As a qb. Right now. He looks tentative and fearful of being exposed to upper body blows. Or maybe its fumbles hes fearing? When he sees the rush coming he curls his shoulders and tries to swallow the ball into his body.
No qb can be successful inside the cage of fear. That does seem to show up often in the games ive seen this year. The one thing the bears didnt do with their roster this year. Was add a wise and ancient vet jag qb. Who does Caleb have in that qb room. To hold his hand? Tyson Bagent? Lol. I think Bagent is actually younger than Williams.
We've discussed that idea here before. That drafting a young qb without having the mentorship in place. The qb whisperer. Whatever you wantvto call it. It almost always leads to a failure to develop that big investment into the big payoff.
Whoever becomes next hc of bears. That needs to be a priority. Find a smart old jag. Maybe somebody that retired. Tannehill? Dalton? Jimmy G? Audition a few. Find one that clicks with Caleb. Sign the personal qb coach to a 2 or 3 year deal. Learn the kid up. BC right now? Caleb looks like a bust. And the kid is far too talented to be the next Justin Fields/ Mitch Trubisky.
Skol vikings. Good win.
