Back in my day, the playing field wasnt much of a stadium. I doubt it sat more than 1500. Couldnt say what it is now. I dont think it even had student dorms or frat houses. It was a no frills commuter college. Part of the california state unniversity system that provided a great education at crazy low cost. Sac state had a very good reputation in computer science. Its funny. Much talk lately bc of doge concerning "cobol". I learned advanced cobol, rpg, fortran and "machine language" as a Hornet. Theres probably not many of us left that know cobol. I should probably rephrase that. Not many of us left that once "knew" cobol. Those languages were more data systems than the stuff of today that is more dedicated to animation and user interface. Like java script, html, sql, c++. Machine language/ "assembler" is still around. My professors were mostly ex IBM employees. Ibm had a famous egghead culture. Humorless and scary serious people. That culture x-fered to both the JC & the U I attended. Although. Now that i think on it. I think sac state was not actually called a unniversity back then. I think it was called sac state college. I DO NOT miss those hours spent in the " computer lab". It was the 70's, early 80's. The culture in that program looked & felt very thin black tie top button white shirt like it was part of the hoover fbi. And now, lil ol sac state movin' on up to major league college football. Back then, if you wanted to play football. Those guys went to nevada/reno. Montana state. San Diego state. Cal Poly. Or if they had the grades. Stanford or Berkley. Chico state and uc Santa Barbara were the party schools. Uc Davis was the science/ biology school. Sac state was computers/ biz majors. |
