I heard somebody on one of the NFL shows talking up old man Rivers. "What an amazing story to takev5 years off, come back at a moments notice and play respectably vs a top 5 NFL defense".

I see it differently. I see it through the Tom Brady comments of a year or 2 back. How dumbed down this era of football is. Something I've discussed often over the past 10 years. The arrival of the "spread" QB. How that player now dominates the rosters across the league.
So, a guy that understands pro set football at a high level. Even with a noodle OG arm, can step in & have success.

Malik Willis/ Jordan Love. Same lacking mental acuity. Neither will ever be a pro set, read the defense and dissect the weakness type. So? Wouldn't it be a no brainer to go with the QB that can beat you with his legs? Would Willis be as good a passing QB as Love if given the reps. If the offense were tweaked a bit and tilted to those extras Willis brings?

Idk that there's many qb's playing now in 2025 that could have played in 1995. I think the majority would just be perennial IR residents.
The rule changes have allowed marginal QB ability to rise to the level of stardom.

Long before there was Josh Allen. There was the Bears Bobby Douglas. I think he was the 1st NFL QB 1000 yard rusher. He wound up beat to a pulp.
We witnessed what happened to RG3. Archie Manning.
We witnessed Mike Vick and Randall Cunningham miss long stretches of seasons as they got pummeled on a weekly basis. Steve Young, realized he had to learn to be a QB, not a runniften guy that could throw a pass. We witnessed Can Newton beaten to a pulp and his career shortened.

As I often say. It is what it is.
It's hard to argue with the NFL bc of their wildly successful biz model. The cash register rings at a level the 1970's couldn't imagine.

That said. The 60's - 90's was a superior product.
What we call the NFL now. Feels like high school style ball with better athletes. And the rules have become goofy as hell!
