As well, Mac Jones, Rusty Wilson, maybe Air-Wrong? Geno Smith? Followed by the former busts/ reclamation project guys. Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Will Levis. Spencer Rattler can probably be had for a song & a backend of roster special team contributor... Theres probably 2 or 3 im forgetting.
Imo, the prize in that box of cracker jacks is Malik Willis. The longshot is Will Levis or Zach Wilson.
The question is. Which guy(s) can be brought in to compete without becoming a distraction sideshow. Who comes in without mortgaging the cap before they show they actually fit? The bigger question that needs resolution is- how? What can be done? Is it posssible? To get a version of JJ McCarthy that can stay healthy so he can be developed into his best self.
Ultimately, having the ability to remain gealthy us why I soured on Mike Penix late in the 2024 draft process. Settling in on Bo Nix as my preferred target was largely driven by my doubt that McCarthy, Penix & Jayden Daniels had the ability to stay healthy. The body type & playing style as well as prior history made it obvious- to anybody paying attention. These 3 were the ones that would become nfl availability challenged... It proved to be true...
Teddy Bridgewater taught us viking fans this fact. A qb with pencil thin ankles. Tiny lower bodys & skinny frames. They will always be worrisome players when tossed into NFL hits and the 18 week season. It just is.
The guy that spends his early nfl years getting beat up? Its likely going to be a career long trend.
Through that lens of Injury history?
Idk that any of them are worth a big contract.
Idk that Malik Willis has shown anything more than McCarthy has in the injury dept.
The 2 on that list that have shown ability to take weekly physical punishment are probably the 2 biggest warts. Kirko & Zach Wilson.
If ever, somebody could get Zach Wilsons head on straight? The physical tools are there. It would be an interesting keg of black powder to add the Wilson ego into the mix with the McCarthy ego. Yet? I think that is the correct qb to sign as competition for Brosmer/ McCarthy. Give all 3 a ticket to a secret camp somewhere. Send some receivers along with them to the offseason Josh McKown qb ranch sponsored by Dr. Pepper and Dr. Joel Furman. Green eats for green qb's. Mornings in the classroom, noon time bucking hay, digging trenches, Afternoons playing 5 on 5 or 7x7 football. Evenings with a yoga master.
If you make it voluntary, its legal under nfl rules.
