He turns 31 in december. Acl, knee surgery in 2021, missed most of '25 season with leg fracture. He was once, a helluva player.
I think he's on the downside. The link is to his weekly injury designations. Mostly he played through the pain. But that raises concerns that if that knee isnt arthritic now, it will be soon.
Inside line play is rough on lower legs.
The Dollars on his next deal. Thats the question.
With the existing teams inside the division? The qb ussue, the vikings should be very "prudent" with spending future cap to be better now.
They really need to nail some draft picks.
4th round pick Michael Jurgens got 3 starts in 2025 @ center. Brandel got 4. Ryan kelly got 8. I think Joe Huber got the other 2.
Jurgens & Brandel had very similar pff grades.
Slightly lower pressure rates than Kelly(9.0%)
To 7.4% & 7.1%. but kelly was credited with 2 sacks allowed vs 4&3 for jurgens/brandel. Suggesting they got beat cleanly for a couple ez sacks via inexperience? but otherwise were serviceable. Brandel is best remaining the swing guy... Id be fine with Jurgens getting his shot as the starter. He actually graded the best in the run game from the center position last year.
Not that any of them were great.
More on Jurgens 3 starts-
Cincinnati (Week 3), Detroit (Week 17) and Green Bay (Week 18) in 2025. In those tilts, PFF awarded pass-blocking grades of 67.4, 83.7 and 71.6; he was dinged for a sack and two total pressures allowed. Its notable, that ugly game in ATL was Jurgens 1st career start. Everybody was beat like a rag doll that night. Was it Jurgens line calls?
Its year 3 for the kid. Being named starter early on in the season process. Perhaps thats the right move. Boost his confidence- he ended 2025 on a high note and began it with a no confidence vote from the coaches when they spent big on Kelly.
At some point- you have to trust the process. Draft another center in the mid/late rounds that can start his journey. Fries wont be around forever, so theyre going to need to be ready with an IOL replacement even if Jurgens steps up & plays good. I doubt he'll be worse than Bradburry was. He looked the part in those last 2 games.
