The twins are alone in last place. The Tiggies are in a 3 way tie for 2nd. As well, Detroit is the only squad in the central with + run differential.
For this 4 game series, my opine is Detroit has the pitcher matchup advantage in all 4 games.
While the lineup comparisons aren't remotely close.
For tc- gaining a split will be their best outcome. While the Tigers are eyeing a very possible, rare, 4 game road sweep.
Of course, the games don't occur in the vacuum of statistical matchups and paper calculations.
It's the bats, gloves & splitter grips. It's the umpires and the weather. It's about when will the moment occur for this collection of twinkies. When they realize the team is not assembled with thoughts of October. Nope. This is a team of minor actors. Auditioning on a summer stock barn stage for paying jobs in a real Broadway cast.
Now there is a certain glue that occurs naturally in the land of misfit toys. That not supposed to be here, underdog role will win them some games they should lose. Yet mostly. This tc crew will be underdogs in at least 120 games this season. At some point. This players will realize. They aren't lucky for the opportunity of now that is likely not available in very many other organizations. One by one, the grind will wear down their youthful joy and the understanding will arrive. " I am being exploited by cheapskates that will hold my options tightly and squeeze every penny out of my cheap contract.
Once that virus of discontent sneaks into the tc clubhouse. The '26 twins will stake their permanent claim on their ordained 5th place finish.
The big questions I have. Can these twinkies manage anything remotely close to .500 ball. And if not. Who gets traded off to a contender 1st? Joe Ryan? Byron B? Royce Lewis for a business mans ( hot dog & a beer for $5) Wednesday special?
Perhaps a bullpen arm that finds his groove?
Right now. The 2nd week of April. The twins are not yet the worst team in baseball. Somewhere around late May? Maybe not until August? TC will own the worst record in the AL and not relinquish. The only question is... Rockies or TC to win the race to 100 "L's".
The saving grace for these 2 fan bases is the longshot hope that the upcoming cba negotiations re align the words " fair play" into the equation of roster assembly. The dodgers and the near $500m payroll is absolutely unsustainable in a 30 team league.
