On ESPN schedule show he does identify the vikings #1 issue. Kyler Murray is a playmaker, & KOC is a self proclaimed genius. Danny O sez, Kyler is gonna have change his approach & be satisfied being the " point guard". Suggesting that KOC is the star of this offense...
If that is infact how this plays out. Murray is going to struggle. IMO- KOC is the dude that needs to adapt. It's players on the field taking the hits. Running, throwing, sliding...making plays.
A great coach... Rule 1- design a scheme that puts your player(s) in a position to succeed. IDC if kevie is a football god. Kyler will not hold up, nor McCarthy. In the "stand in there kirko, take the hit" offense KOC has run in every season he's been Viking hc. Neither Kyler or JJ are built for what we've witnessed. Be it kirko, darnold, CW, JJ or mullins, pastronaut, mond. Did I miss anybody?
Koc's offense to date is a QB punisher. It has to change this year. Period. Far & few are the qb's that can withstand 20+ hits, always, every week in week out. He, kick, nearly gave Carson Wentz an amputated arm last year. The teams future QB is in college right now. KOC has to rethink things. Either build one helluva o-line to much reduce the hits. Increase the time his QB has. Or. Re imagine the late breaking route scheme.
Orlovsky is missing the larger picture... Koc has wanted a more mobile QB. But he has yet to show he knows how to scheme to the strengths of such a QB.
Normally, I would love this schedule. 5 of last 7 games at home... But I wish for a tanking season. Be in position to draft that young QB that can actually play the position. There's some gooduns coming in 2027. Need to be in top 5 to get one. Top 2 would be better.
