Of course, he could most easily become the next Art Schlister. Any body remember him?
Got into the league, cleveland I think. Had many gambling issues that vame out. Tried a comeback and eventually wound up with a 20? 25? Year prison sentence gor a whole host of criminal activity beyond gambling...
Scouts are divided on his actual resemblence to an nfl qb. But most agree theres a level of eye popping dual threat talent there. Great size. Very good on goeld instincts. Just some careless with ball security at times.
More important, hes a far better rated prospect( athletically) than JJ-Mac.
The only real red flag- and its a empire state building sized red flag. The gambling issue. The art schlister comparison. Ol Art was quite the high rated qb prospect back in the day. That similar story will scare most teams off. The Vikings being a likely candidate in the group that run away from him in full leprosy fear.
What a disaster Sorsby could be to the teams highly prized high character identity. What a giant threat to the team identity.
Except, if it is truly a high character environment. That could be the exact perfect fit for a kid that will need much support and openess if he's going to beat his addiction(?).
Oconnell made the rather famous statement about teams being to blame for giving up on players long before the player gives up on the team. Hinting at a level of empathy and support in that lockeroom that stands above the average nfl facility. Can sorsby be had for a 5th round supplemental draft pick? Or is it likely a 2nd round pick? Something in between?
Given their absence of certainty for the position. The lack of top talent competing for the qb job. The vikings should be very active in scouting the talented qb. If handled correctly. Some team could very well land a heckuva qb. Or just as easily. Be sending sorsby a monthly box of cookies to whichever prison becomes his long term home.
Given the viking track record of failure to find a guy via conventional april drafting. I say, hell yes. Give the kid a try. It cant be any worse a risk than blowing 1st round picks on skinny legged injury risk prospects like Teddy & JJ.
