So, if we had hot rid of ponder earlier. Knowing then what we know now. Dumped teddy earlier. How many missed opportunities to find a top qb would the vikings not have missed?
What dont you get?
KOC couldnt make McCarthy into a good qb.
I'll give you this.
Id rather have McCarthy with Koc being the guy dumped. But that option wasnt on the table.
Hell, id take anybody at qb if it meant Oconnell went elsewhere. But nobody listens to me until it becomes a full on dumpster fire with far too many seasons wasted.
McCarthy, " I think this team is a better fitbfor me".
I dont care what lical pundits say, what anybody sez. McCarthy told you rught there the underlying truth. He wanted out of the KOC square peg system... Id bet Kyler now wishes hed signed elsewhere as well. Its becoming painfully obvious. To me anyway. KOC knows 1 way to run an offense, and he believes in it 100%.
Could mccarthy become a good qb? Perhaps in the mold of mayfield? Yes, probably so.
Niwbill ask you. If mayfield had landed with the vikings & KOC instead of Tampa and Liam Cohen. Would Mayfield have resurrected his career?
If the vikings had drafted paddy Mahomie? Would koc have turned that pick into multiple superbowl trophies? Jalen hurts has a superbowl trophy. Could Oconnell even have won a playoff game with hurts?
The cop out answer is maybe so. Nobody knows.
I know. The answer to all of the above is " of course not".
All of those qbs succeeded bc the team built an identity ariund the strengths of their qb. Hell., oconnell cant even create a consistentvrun game for a rb! And hes going to find success with a run 1st qb?
Get real!
Koc knows 1 scheme. His adapted/morphed version of the Mike Shannahan play action pass game. Heavy on the pass with a minimal run game.
The vikings dont adapt their offense, build a scheme around the qb they have. Maximize the skill set the qb has. Not in the least bit!
Koc want every qb to learn his offense.
Look at the Josh Dobbs experiment. That was pure lunacy. Koc talking into the qb's helmet explaining what the defense is doing and in which window the designed target/receiver will break open?
For Nfl coaches, qb play is like the many facets of life. Adapt or die. Koc has it backwards. He thinks the qb is the one that needs to adapt.
Hint. Its not 1995 anymore. The next qb koc gets out of college will probably have earned more from NIL than Koc has made his entire career in minnesota... And the attitude of the qb will be. Shut the hell up. Im not gonna stand in the pocket and get pummeled by design. How did your career as an nfl qb stand up to those hits coach?
The morevthis has played out, it appears kwesi was a convenient scapegoat. Go back to predraft interviews. Preseason interviews. KOC wanted mccarthy, believed he could mold the kid into a play action pocket passing qb. Go back to discussions just this past summer. The debatexwasxabout which qb was LEARNING/grasping the koc system better....
We now know the answer is/was ... NEITHER!
AND.. KOC is not aboutbto meet any qb halfway. Its my way or the highway.
I know where that coaching style works.
High school.
Carson Wentz turn is coming.
Our best hope is the wilfs figure this out and promote flores... And then were back full circle to mike ximmer football.
Wash, rinse.....
And we may ask ourselves...
"My god, what have i done!"
