I regularly walk my dog around Whitmore Park, I work close by. On the eastern side there is a double row of tree and what appears to be a now grass covered road, with signs of a ditch either side, oddly this sparked enough interest in me to find some old maps of pre new town Basildon, wondering if what I could see actually was an old roadway, to my surprise I think I am right! It appears the road/track used to lead to a building called Fryerns, a map from the 18thC. I've looked for me more information on this building but cannot find anything, so again wondered if anyone here could help? Is this the building the area takes its name from, was it the farm that's often mentioned? Does anyone have a photo or some history to share? Also is this the only remaining outline of the original landscape left ?
Many thanks
Tim
