I lived in Rectory Gardens, Pitsea in the early 1970s. I remember the road was all bungalows and mostly had elderly people living in them. The road itself was unmade and just mud. I remember slipping and sliding all over the place as my dad drove his car up to our bungalow. Later before we left to live somewhere else the road was made up properly by the council. At the top of the road, it led to open fields with the odd bungalow here and there, it was a haven for wildlife. There was an elderly couple that lived towards the top of the road that my dad had become friendly with. They told him that when they first moved to the property many years before they made a surprising discovery. One day they were in their back garden and out of the wooded area beyond appeared a naked woman a man. Apparently, they were staying in a nudist camp and had wandered beyond the boundary. It seems strange but yes, there was a nudist camp in Rectory Road. The elderly couple told my dad that they used to see expensive cars arrive outside the camp and very wealthy looking people, dressed in lavish clothes arrive for their stay. As a child I have never forgotten this story, there was certainly no sign of anyone naked walking around when we lived there.
