Have you lost your mind? Just kidding.
When they raised the bridge back around 1985?, they did go back about a half mile on each side.
They raised and replaced the old Creosote Poles with concrete. NOTE that they also increased the actual head-room by a great idea. Kudos to the engineer who decided that we could increase the raise with rails instead of more 12x12's. Next time you go through the bridge, notice that the head space on the in/out channels are higher than the neighboring cuts because of the design.
Back in the sixties, you either had a jon boat or a 16' run-about with the rails and windshield removed.
Also, before the raising of HWY 6, we all went to Petes bait camp, on this side of the HWY 6 bridge. Then it burned down.
Way,way, way back in the day, there was no bridge. According to people I know and trust, shrimp boats used the area just downstream of the bridge as a fresh shrimp baitcamp... But that is a story that is probably not on the internet. Hey Bubba C., chime in, they were your relatives.
