Hurricane Laura has entered the Gulf. The latest track has moved farther west somewhat. We have been and continue to monitor the latest developments. The city is at this time issuing a VOLUNTARY EVACUATION. If you have needs that will be impacted by power outages please make plans to evacuate now. As we receive updated information, we will pass the information on including any changes to our current evacuation plans. Please secure any objects that can be affected by winds.
1. If you have any type of medical needs that will be affected by power outages, or flooding, individuals need to start making plans to leave the city. If any resident needs assistance moving a loved-one or themselves, please contact the Police or Fire department as soon as possible so plans can be made. If you plan to stay please ensure you have adequate medicines, water, and non-perishable food for a minimum of three days.
2. Please secure any furniture, or items on decks or patios that may be blown by the wind and become projectiles. This includes patio furniture, plants, windchimes, etc.
3. If you have any type of water craft please remove it or raise it to the highest point in the slings. Any smaller water craft needs to be removed from the water or secured as best as can be.
4. THE BIG LOT NEEDS TO BE CLEARED OF ALL VEHICLES BY 2:00 P.M. TODAY. Any remaining vehicles remaining will be towed. The big lot is needed for a staging area to respond to the needs of the city.
