I am writing to request that you appoint Mr. Javier Bernal to the vacancy on the MUD12 board at your meeting Monday, November 16th. I donít have to extol his virtues, experience or knowledge as you know all that. What I would like to point out is that the MUD board has been at odds with the majority of the community they serve since at least April of this year. The MUD board has lost any credibility or trust from the community they may have started this year with through the actions of the board members. The information that has come to light, the lies told, the polluting of the canals in Bayou Vista and the ineligibility of a board member to even have been appointed to the board have all served to foster an atmosphere of deep mistrust of all things MUD12.
If you have any desire to begin to repair the MUD12 relationship with the community, you will appoint Mr. Bernal. He has gained the trust of the community, especially those that attend the MUD meetings, through his thoughtful and knowledgeable questions to the board at each meeting. This has shown us that he knows what he is talking about, he isnít afraid to challenge the status quo and he is interested in working towards the betterment of the MUD operations to serve the community. While I understand you may not wish to appoint him because he has challenged you in the past, that is exactly why you should appoint him. A well functioning board should challenge each other in their discussions while making decisions that affect the community, and all sides should be represented. To do any less is a disservice to the community you serve.
