For those of you who have been living under a rock, tonight is the annual Bayou Vista Boat Parade. The parade will start at 6:00 on the Blue Heron canal this year and work its way up and down the canals all the way to the Dolphin canal. We have great boats and it will be a fabulous time. The weather is looking pretty good so plan on being outside to enjoy it.
If you live towards the end of the route or don't have a good place to watch it, make your way down to the lateral canal side of any street. You'll be able to see it go from Jones Bayou to the starting canal at Blue Heron around 5:45. And then you will be able to see it go from canal to canal if you go to the ends of the streets in order.
Some hints for parade viewers: please have the lights on your dock on if you want the parade goers to throw candy to you or the kids. If you're standing there in the dark we may not see you due to all the lights on our boats. Please consider pulling in your green lights so they don't get broken - we come in pretty close to the docks to throw candy. Have anything that protrudes from your dock lit up so we can see it and avoid it.
Remember this parade is put on entirely by volunteers for the community's enjoyment! Not all boats make it to all canals. Sometimes they have issues or they have young children on board they need to get home. they need to make bathroom breaks. Sometimes they're just plain tired or cold. This parade can take up to 3 1/2 hours to complete and that doesn't count the time or money they spend decorating their boats.
I'll be out on one of the boats - hope to see you all on the water!!
