Boil Water Notice Rescinded 06/21/24
"On 06/19/24, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the Galveston County MUD 12, TX0840021, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of 06/21/24.
If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact John Davis at 281-793-9034, 13735 Grant Rd. Cypress TX 77429 or jdavis@benryus.com."
MUD sent out the statement in quotes above via the IRIS alert system today. My comments begin here: TCEQ regulates water services in Texas. They are the agency that determines when a boil water notice must be in place. The MUD 12 is required to follow those requirements.
The discolored water was because of construction and replacement of a 42" service line by the Galveston County Water Authority and, according to TCEQ, did not affect the drinkability or safe use of the water. MUD 12, Galveston's water department and other areas in southern Galveston county all received the cloudy water.
MUD 12 is completing the installation of cutoff valves to lessen inconveniences in the District. The MUD 12 is making improvements to the water systems to continue to provide water and sewer services with fewer interruptions. Some of the recent boil water notices have been because of the installation of those improvements.
MUD 12 has completed the upgrade of the billing system to better serve its customers and has improved communications so customers are aware of changes in advance when ever possible.
I encourage everyone to attend the Board of Directors meetings the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Administration Building, 2929 Highway 6, Bayou Vista, TX 77563 to learn more about future improvements.
