Excellent commentary, Bob and Vaun. Isn’t it interesting how near eighty year olds can miss all the trouble while much younger people think there is a disaster.

That is not the same as giving food to people who don’t really need it. One’s a mission from God, the other probably is not.

While attendance was good at the meeting, it would be well to remember that more than a few of us were there in support of the Mayor and Chief. We were just relatively quiet.

“Cooling Center” has an almost romantic sound to it, doesn’t it? Now that we know how strongly some feel about that, maybe council will take another look at it. “Water and ice”, not a bad idea, though I heard that there were some strings attached, but again, could be reviewed.
We used rides in the car as a way to cool and charge our phones. (I understand that if you have no car or the A/C isn’t working, that’s a problem.) We are also over eighty, but maybe a little creative.

I believe the scrappers were a big asset. They got rid of tons of stuff without cost to us and without overwhelming the dump sites. I’ve heard of no theft.

Put yourself in the Mayor’s position (I know, some wanted to), there was no way she could defend anything she did with what amounted to an angry mob just waiting for more red meat.
Harking back to IKE, as I said, I don’t remember any interaction with anyone other than waving at the officers on patrol after the initial meeting with the then chief. That as I recall was seventeen days without city services. (Think about that! We were camping and officials knew they didn't need to worry about us so they didn't.)

Meanwhile, “THE CONCERNED CITIZENS” are full speed ahead trying to convince people how much they have been wronged, when most of us didn’t even know we needed help or that there was a problem. This was not a big storm, 7 inches in house, not 7 feet!
The destruction of the MUD board still stands I guess as their greatest accomplishment, which shows what can be done and how bad the results can be. There have been other lesser efforts, not the least of which was running the multi-agency task force out of town. They were studying water flow in Highland Bayou, Omega Bay, and Bayou Vista which could have resulted in much improved fishing in the neighborhood.

I’ll give $100 right now to who identifies the person who recently said “I’M REALLY GOOD AT GETTING RID OF PEOPLE” as though that was an honorable talent and something to be proud of.
