Bayou Vista TX 0fficial FB group Steve Kadlecek · FYI! MAJOR TRAFFIC SWITCH Next weekend, TxDot and Williams Brothers will make a major traffic switch by putting all the north bound traffic (3 lanes) on the new feeder road bridge at Tiki Island. How does this affect Tiki Island and the surrounding communities. Starting this coming Monday, February 3rd, TxDot will close the on ramp to I45 north at the Cabaret. This means, next week, for you to head north from Tiki Island, you will have a couple of options. Stay on the feeder road like you are going to Texas City and turn like you’re going to Bayou Vista and enter the on ramp at the Texas City Wye or you can keep going straight and take Hwy 3 to FM 519 and on to the freeway. Some might find it easier just to go into Texas City and take the Emmit Lowry Expressway to I45. Some of the white lane markers separating the on ramp from the traffic lanes will be removed on the new bridge back to about the top of the bridge. You will still have the same amount of space, this is being done so people will realize that the lane ends. Coming from the causeway to Tiki, the left concrete barrier off of the causeway will be removed and at that time that current exit lane will become the outside main lane of the freeway. New barriers will be installed on the causeway diverting all three lanes to the new bridge. The exit lane will remain as it is now, the big difference is that your exiting from the main lanes so make sure to use your turn signals For the switch, provided all the work is complete, it will take place next weekend, Friday through Sunday. A vast majority of the work is expected to be done overnight Saturday maybe into Sunday morning. Regardless, expect delays due to alternate lane closures next weekend northbound between Bayou Vista and Tiki. They are going to try and keep two lanes open but it’s possible it’s only one. A construction zone speed limit of 45 mph will posted from the causeway too where the the three lanes re-enter the freeway. Take it slow, watch for workers and pack some patience, this switch is expected to remain in place for two years. Demolition of the existing northbound main lane bridge at Tiki Island is expected to begin the following Monday, February 10th For more information, the official public notice will be sent by TxDot to all the local cities and should be found on their websites and in the local news media. |
