Galveston Co. Daily News I-45 construction in Dickinson Wednesday could cause another traffic jam. Interstate 45 construction work on a new bridge over FM 517 will close lanes and cause conditions similar to those that left drivers leaving Galveston stuck in traffic and angry about it for hours Saturday. The east and westbound lanes on FM 517 at the intersection will be closed from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday as part of a $230 million I-45 expansion project between FM 517 and FM 1764 scheduled for completion next year. WHAT TO EXPECT WEDNESDAY From 10 p.m. Wednesday and 5 a.m. Thursday, eastbound traffic on FM 517 will turn right at the intersection of FM 517 and the southbound frontage road, travel south to Hughes Road, turn right and continue over the Hughes Road overpass, take a right at the end of the bridge toward the northbound frontage road where drivers will take another right to return to FM 517. Westbound traffic will turn right at the intersection of FM 517 and the northbound frontage road, continue north to southbound U-turn at FM 646 and continue on the southbound frontage road to FM 517. Off-duty police officers will be on site to help with traffic, according to the transportation department. |
