Sitting here on this evening of President's Day I'm reflecting on the importance of elections. I recently listened to a radio discussion regarding that very topic. I will try to put here what Mr. Berry said as I think it is important for others to hear.

The most important elections are not the national elections for president but those elections that impact you the most; local elections. Local elections have an effect on your local taxes, your communities, and your way of life. That's why they are the most important. That's why you should get involved, try to help make a difference. And if you can't get involved, then at the very least, get out and vote. Tell your neighbors to get out and vote, help rally support in your community to encourage votes. Because when more people interact with the process things happen, changes happen, and everyone can benefit from those changes.

In May of 2024, when I ran for the position of Alderman 1, of the 1,621 registered voters in our community only 254 ballots were cast. Less than 16% of those who could vote in our city's election actually did. In May of 2025, only 184 ballots were placed.

It is so important that people get out and vote. It is also important that people take the opportunities that present themselves to volunteer to help make our community the best that it can ever be. Let's see everyone rally together to make Bayou Vista Better Than Ever!
