Al, what do you mean wake up to broken pipes everywhere? The rate Pompano street is going doesn't mean much to me. My guess is that you must be referring to a leak on Pompano and it is running at a high rate (gallons per minute). I should go down stairs and check to see if I have water and at my neighbors also? Very vague. Please clarify. Chuck
Five of my closest neighbors all experienced water breaks due to the freeze… Those breaks will not expose themselves until the temperature rises above 32...The timing of the temperature rising through the evening to the high 40s by morning will expose all the pipes that are weak or broken… mostly will go unnoticed until the morning. I guarantee right now people are sitting around watching I love Lucy and their broken pipes are running downstairs… I'm just simply encouraging people to make one more check on their downstairs and their neighbors....turn the water off at the meter if needed... I know that Tiki Island is experiencing water issues as well
Understood Alan. Good explanation of how it happens. Very important to realize exactly what you explain. Pipes in walls or floors that only have heat on one side can freeze when temps don't rise above freezing for extended periods. This can happen if you turn the water off. If you turn it off you should drain the lines also. Let me hear from you if I can help. I've got boots for pretty deep water also.
