Electricity

Does anyone know what the issue was with the electricity last night?

I live on Sailfish and saw multiple interruptions with my power also last night. These off and on power surges can and will create extensive damage to the electrical devices in our homes up to and possibly including fires. Mostly our expensive computers and ac systems will fail first. Since I’m not an electrician, I would like a remedial explanation of what happen, why it happened, how it happened and what are the plans to keep this from happening again. Just asking, since there is an extensive amount of maintenance work going on in the area.

Thanks for the explanation. I was concerned the surges would effect my electronics but so far all is good except a make up mirror , may not be the cause but it’s pretty new. Thanks again

The transformer at the front of the city by the store is having issue and causing a arcing on the 7.2Kv lines.
This is causing a brown out condition in the city.
When the arcing exceeds the limits a large circuit breaker called a recloser opens at the substation for a little bit.
It then tries to reconnect the city and if the load doesn’t exceed it leaves it on.
That’s why we saw some times the lights stayed off longer than others.

Thanks Carrie and Eric. What a understandable explanation! At least it was for me.

At first I thot it might be lines flapping together in the wind but how rare that would be. Then when it continued coming back on after being off for a while my understanding/imagination of how was exceeded. (you can tell it is very limited at best) Thanks again!!

I would like to know also and specifically what caused the episodes of "blue glow" from the direction of Texas City? Doc Stokes

Yes, we saw that blue flash too from Blue Heron coming from I-45. Our electricity went off for a second then came on. It did that atleast 8 or 9 times over a 15 minute period. I called to speak with centerpoint but they transferred me and no one ever picked up. You could tell the lines must have been slapping togeather causing the short outages. I wish they could put some of the electrical under ground eliminating some of these outages when the wind blows.
