Now that Halloween is over it’s time to start thinking about Christmas and you know Christmas means BOAT PARADE! WHOOHOO!
Boat Parade will be on Saturday, December 10th, starting at 6:00 pm on Blue Heron canal and going up and down each canal through to Dolphin street. It will take approximately 3 ½ - 4 hours to hit all the canals. This parade is put on by the boat owners who decorate their boats, buy lights, candy and beads, and donate their time for the enjoyment of the neighborhood. I know lots of people like to have parties to watch the parade. If it matters to you to see all the boats in all their glory, it is best to find a house, friend, or neighbor at the beginning of the route to see all the boats! Things happen and not every boat finishes the parade. You can also go to the end of any of our streets to watch them go by on the lateral canal between 5:45 and 6:00 at the very beginning when they trek from the gathering point in Jones Bay to the starting point on Blue Heron’s canal.
So, what can you do to help this be a great event for everyone? First – enter the parade! It is so much fun to be on the parade route, see all the people and decorated houses and to be part of the main event! Next, please donate! This is all put together and conducted by volunteers. It can be quite expensive and we want to support them and thank them properly for their efforts! Donations of cash, liquor, candy, beads and other throwables are welcome. Anything you would like to donate as a prize for the parade decoration winners will be greatly appreciated. Think of things, you as a boat owner or resident of this neighborhood might like. We’ve had donations of Coast Guard equipment for the boats, tubes to pull the kids behind the boats, gift cards to stores like Academy and Home Depot, anything you think people would like to receive as gifts/prizes would be great! We also need food and alcohol for the after party! Did I mention an after party? You bet there will be one. We will have food, drinks, music, dancing and just a great time for all. The prizes for best decorated boats will be awarded there. We will have 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Tiny Tim awards and trophies.
If you want to donate anything, please contact me – Shelby Dill, Donna Mayeaux, or Kathy Chrappa. Or, donations can be dropped off at 604 Warsaw (purple house) and placed in the red box outside the gate. Everyone who donates will be recognized (unless they request anonymity) on all the neighborhood FB pages and Boat Parade website. This is a great way to let everyone know you or your business supports this neighborhood!
Boat Captains – WE NEED YOU TO MAKE THIS WORK! If you’ve done it before you know how much fun it is. If you haven’t or you’re new to the neighborhood, this is a great way to meet the people in the hood and have a great time doing so! You can sign up by going to the BV Boat Parade website or contacting one of us. By the way, we already have two entries!! There will be a boat captains’ meeting on Wednesday, December 7th at 7:00 at 604 Warsaw.
