This is from the chief. Kathy, thank you so much. The city is aware of power outages and is in contact with Centerpoint. We are being advised Centerpoint crews are on the way and will arrive during the day today. They cannot give us an approximate time of full power back to the city.
And other news. The city has activated our debris removal and debris monitoring contract. We are setting the 17th as the first date for debris pick up.
Please go to the City website to see how to separate debris for pick up. The Sailfish gate will remain closed until further notice. There are numerous outside individuals coming into the city that we do not want to have exiting down Sailfish. We're trying to force them to come back through the city so that we can protect the city as best we can.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns as always, please feel free to contact me directly. I will be in the city throughout the day and early evening hours.
I have met with the mayor and we are and have been continuously monitoring all facets of this storm. We have also been in contact with the local, state and federal government in reference to the storm and the damage.
FEMA has been activated and will be in the area as soon as they can. Again, please contact me directly if you have questions, comments, or concerns thank you and stay safe. Chief Jimmie Gillane
Since most have never interacted with FEMA would you post or copy or provide a website where we citizens could get information on what a citizen is to do relevant to FEMA being onsite.
FEMA.gov has that information. The site has a little lag because Pres. Biden had to declare the disaster before FEMA could begin offering assistance. The disaster was declared on 07/09/24.
In past hurricanes assistance was offered at a One Stop location with numerous agencies there to help will our needs. I have not seen an announcement of a center for Galveston county but that should be announced quickly.
