A couple of months ago younger son wanted to borrow my m/bike whilst his was off the road for ten days so I had the adapted h/bar controls taken off and the normal controls refitted. (I'm 75 and ride one-armed so can't operate normal controls).
A pal offered to refit the adaptations for me yesterday so I thought I'd get the bike out of the shed and onto the road ready for my son to ride it to my pal's workshop. What could possibly go wrong?
However, after riding the bike 35 yds down the garden without any brakes I managed to stop it with my heels and leaned forward to open the back gate but lost my balance and fell against a pair of full water butts. They leaned apart from each other and still hanging on to the 'bars I slipped between them after which they closed back together squashing me behind them and against the house wall with half a gallon of slimy rainwater having slopped down the back of my neck and the throttle wide open. Fortunately, upon hearing the screaming engine the very lovely young lady next door came out and quite unsurprised at my predicament (all the neighbours know me well) she managed to help me and the bike out from between the water butts. My son then arrived to ride it to my pal's to get the adaptations fitted, after which I had a great ride around deserted leafy lanes with no further excitement.
It has to be done.
