As b.o.b. has said, opinions change. I originally thought that the Honda 250/400T Dreams were stubby, round, fat and made of metal ping-pong balls but I quite like the look of them now.
They only sold for around six months in the UK before being succeeded by the Superdreams. However, I believe the 400 was quite popular in North America where it was available for four years and known as the Hawk [or, more accurately, "HaWk"]. The States even had the choice of an alternative, kickstart-only "budget" version with a front drum brake, spoked wheels and no tacho.
I still think the LE Velo is ugly as sin, though.
