Were they a bad design, or just really cheaply built, or did people abuse them? Seems like to me by that time that Austin or Morris or BMC or whoever they were called by that time would know how to build an automobile ... Or were they really as bad as people remember?
I mean, I can see a "Yugo" or a "Dongfeng" being like that, they didn't know any better or care, but ...
Our worst ones were the 71 Chevrolet Vega (horrible design and incompatible engine materials) and the GM Diesels of the 80s, which were just 350 cu in gasoline engines converted to diesels with heads and fuel systems, and came apart like a cheap cigar. Rushed into production to meet a perceived need and cost GM their arse ....
