My compensation claim settled in 1983. I had been a keen table tennis player but they would not pay anything because i was not in a club. I lost my job and out of work 4 years. When they paid up, they said that the money should keep you going until you find a different type of job. I got nothing for loss of any hobbies but it was enough to buy my house and a new car. Only problem was i really had to put money back so i could retire early. I would never have worked to 65 so finished permanently at 59. The amount i had was supposed to compensate for lifetime constant pain and all future operations. last operation was 30 years after the accident. The money made my life a little easier in the long term by getting a less active job. The money will never stop all the pain i still have and i will lose my left foot later on as circulation was disrupted.
I was lucky as i survived to live a good life.
