as a mechanical numpty, several eon's ago my 125 mil James's rear brake became non existant so without knowledge i brought new lined shoes, removed the rear bits and pieces carefully laying out he various parts in sequential order the theory making assembly in reverse order simple,& so it seemed. only problem was on completion I noticed a felt washer thingy laying on the ground that hadn't been seen earlier. cant be important thought I, only felt, so therew it awyay. brakes sorted no problem about a week later cleaning the bike found a sparkiling residue around back brake and spokes, caused by the backplate slowly sawing through the spokes having disturbed and not noticed the washer that was originally stuck to grease on the plate & felloff during assembly. care & attention can be as dangerous as a little knowledge sometimes.
