You never know what you will find up in the mountains here in Virginia. A friend of mine called me and said he’d like my company on a trip about 100 miles north to look at an old bike he’d found with the idea of buying it and using it to bimble around on.
So we headed into the Blue Ridge Mountains pulling a trailer, and came to a fairly nice house up on a hillside somewhere between Madison and Syria, VA, where we found a 1970 BMW R75/5 awaiting a new owner.
It was stone stock, a bit patina-ed, but overall unmolested and in good shape. I took it down the road for 5 miles or so, and it ran smooth and quiet, shifted easy for a BMW, rode straight when I took my hands off the bars, and stopped as well as drum brakes will do.
I came back with a recommendation to buy and stepped aside while the negotiations took place, resulting in $2500 changing hands and the bike rolling up onto the trailer.
I ALWAYS enjoy helping spend other people’s money!
