Seen on here before this pic is of the Velocette Venom I once owned the pic is as bought 1958 and was a 57 bike notice it was Clubman spec Not released until 58 the rear sets are the same as the later bike but the gear change and brake levers a different the bike was tuned by Ray Petty and raced stripped down buy the famous Pat Wise when I started racing in production events it was fery quick and successful I was given free oil by BP to promote their Visco Static multi grade.. This wrecked the engine and was rebuilt by my own tuner who will remain nameless and a re-machined 350 Viper head was fitted this and the piston had a squish band at the time to be within the rules I was still running a TT carb..slightly over bored.. The bike vibrated quite bad so the crank was dynamicly balanced by another well know Velo tuner
After that the engine would rev to 7400 rpm well above the original 7200 rpm the bike was very successful in production Racing up to 1967 when I packed up.. In 1968 the Thruxton came out a copy of my bike except for a different head and GP carb
Were these modifications copied or just a fluke.
The original was sold off in bits engine going to a Velo sidecar outfit and the rest sold off as spares an interesting story???
