My boy had a gas powered car. he was driving long distance every day and it kept burning exhaust valves out. It was costing too much in repairs so went back to diesels.
Honda civic he bought with 75000 miles soon added another 80000 miles and the head gasket gave in. Scrapped it and bought a 2.2 diesel Honda Civic 10 years old and that will soon have 45000 miles a year added before scrap time. The gas car did travel 190000 miles before scrapping. Other boy uses a Porsche 911 as he does low mileage and fuel and road tax do not matter. 2 other boys run old diesels.
I expect to have a hybrid next time. Tried them out and they were certainly good and quiet running locally.
Nissan leaf electric cars are about 1000 at 5 years so not very attractive as a purchase with a mileage limit of under 20 mile a charge. Of course, you also need the 2000 pound charging point
