He was in the Navy in 1945 and was on liberty in San Diego, California. At a restaurant, he met a young WAVE (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service), who was also Navy, and they danced the night away.
It was a 72-hour liberty, and they met again the next day. They decided to get married, got in a cab and asked the driver to take them where they could get a license and a Justice of the Peace. The driver thought it was such a nice thing that he took them to his house first, and gave them his wife's ring (never knew if he was widowed or separated), and they got married that day.
Married 55 years, they were, when she passed away ....
