Here in my neck of the woods, we have beans, and we have toast, but nobody ever does anything called "beans on toast". Years of Brit TV have taught me that this is the epitome of something cheap to eat when you haven't got anything else, but we don't do it.

Last time I was at the Ace Cafe (2018, I guess), and had lunch there, the cheapest thing on the menu was "egg and chips". That's another thing you'll never find in a US diner - "french fries" with a fried egg on top.

On the other hand, riding through New York once, I stopped at an old-fashioned diner, and got a "Jersey Omelet" - an omelet made with "American Cheese" (which is really "pasteurized cheese food product", not real cheese) with Grape Jelly. Actually wasn't bad, but I'll bet they don't serve it alongside a "Full English" 'over there' ... !
