Gable's main mission was as a camera operator, but he was also a qualified air gunner and took a waist gun position on several missions.

Although I must say that I have the same respect for everyone who joined up. They took an oath to follow orders and die for their country if they had to. Some folks were ordered to the front, some worked behind the lines in support positions, some worked at home supporting the ones overseas. Everyone can't be at the front getting shot at.
