I've a bottle of (pink) liquid by one of the polish makers (not Autoglym), the bottle says it's for removing old wax. I wipe it on with a paper towel, it dries quickly, I wipe it off with another paper towel. Always worked for me. Never done anything to paint.

You might wonder why I don't go and look up the maker of this wonder pink liquid; it's 'cos the ground is covered in snow and ice and it's so cold that when I open the door, the light comes on ... fwiw, I bought the stuff in Halfords.
